Tips and Tricks
Swim Caps
To encourage unity of the UClub swim team, no swim caps from other teams are permitted at practices or meets. Swimmers will be asked to either turn the cap inside out or wear a different cap. Although we understand the pride and show of commitment to swim the cap may represent to your child, please help them by communicating this to them ahead of swim test and practice beginning.
Swim Lessons
All swim lessons should be scheduled through the NC State University Club website, check back closer to summer for the updated club website's scheduling tool. www.ncsuclub.com
Swimsuit Ordering
Instructions are included on the “Resources” tab here.
Buying a Competitive Suit
How tight should it be? We personally recommend that suits should fit snuggly when first tried on. After even a few practices, the water and chlorine will start to stretch the suit. If you want to use a team suit for multiple years, consider getting a practice suit off of the clearance rack and using that one daily! If a swimmer wears the same suit every day for practice, it's much less likely to make it through a second season.
Goggles
Goggles should be comfortable and they should not leak. If they are not, try different brands or different styles. They should be snug enough to not fall off when diving in the water.
Swim Meets
Relays
These Relay Teams are made up of 4 kids 1-3 teams per age group. These teams are created by coaches. If your swimmer is on the heat sheet as doing a relay, please do not leave the meet early. If you need to, please let a coach know so they can get a replacement.
Times and Scores
Please download the SwimTopia app to get your swimmer's times and scores.
Signing Up Swimmers for Meets
One of the most important obligations parents have is to sign their swimmers up for the weekly meets. The coaches make the line-ups for the meets days in advance based on who has confirmed their attendance for the meet.
You must sign-up your swimmer for a meet by NOON on the Saturday prior to the Tuesday meet.
Signing up a swimmer to attend a meet is done online on the team website. Instructions on how to sign up are posted on the website. Swimmers that show up for a meet that they did not sign up to attend may NOT be able to participate in the meet.
If you signed your swimmer up to attend a meet, but for he/she can’t make it and you are past the deadline, as soon as you become aware that your swimmer won’t be able to make it to the meet, please send an email to [email protected] and include the swimmer’s name and age.
Parent Volunteer Requirements
Each family of a swim team member is required to volunteer for a position for at a minimum of four jobs during the season depending on the number of families we have this year. This is a condition of the child swimming on the team. It takes numerous volunteers to run each meet. In addition to volunteering on a per job basis, the Pool Committee may offer various season-long positions to assist in running meets, planning social activities, or other tasks as deemed appropriate. Volunteering for one of these positions satisfies the requirement for working four jobs.
Volunteer sign-up is done online through the team website.
The Candy Shack
The Candy Shack is set up at home meets by the steps going up to the locker rooms. This year, we will be doing a Sign Up Genius to help get more donations. Parents are asked to donate individually packaged, store bought goods that can be sold at the Candy Shack. All proceeds from the Candy Shack are used to help offset the cost of running the team. When you donate candy to the Candy Shack, you can drop it off prior to meets in the front office and let them know what it is for or drop it off at the Shack when you arrive for a home meet.
